What does Sciatica feel like?

Sciatica is an extremely debilitating condition that most of us will experience at some time in our lives. The pain can vary from excruciating stabbing to a steady and continuous deep ache, much like tooth ache.
Pain is felt in the low back and deep within the buttock, usually to one side or the other, then travelling down the leg on the same side. In extreme cases the pain travels through the knee and into the foot, ending in the big toe.
Very often accompanying the pain is a loss of mobility. The leg affected feels heavy, leaden, dead and is hard to lift. Walking upstairs or downstairs is difficult as is trying to do simple things such as putting on socks or stepping into trousers.
Continued pain from Sciatica leaves the patient feeling aged, weary, depressed and very often hopeless.
